Mile 5 Bluegrass Band

Mile 5...

A destination perhaps? A turning point? A landmark along the way? Answer “yes” to all three of these questions! Mile 5 is a new band, comprised of “old hands” in the bluegrass business. Seemlessly integrating hard driven bluegrass, along with haunting ballads. Mile 5 features James Peters as their lead singer/guitarist, but also has three other very qualified vocalists with Christi Cato, Cody Brooks, and Ed Stacey. Harmonies vocals are abundant in a Mile 5 show. With well crafted musicianship, and a professional attitude. When you see Mile 5..."You’re There!”

Mile 5 band members live in the Nashville and Springfield area of Tennessee and currently perform throughout the southeast, and is open to bookings in surrounding areas.

  • Ed Stacey
Ed Stacey has roots in music extending back to the late sixties. His father being a D.J. for KIKK radio in Houston Texas, Ed was exposed to, and became friends with,  superstar entertainers at a very early age. Ed began playing guitar in the early 70s, and switched to banjo in 1976. A regular stand in band member for Bill Grant and Delhia Bell, Ed went on to play for such groups as Joe Diffie and “Special Edition”,  “You Can be a Star” finalists “Union Standard”, “Timberline Drive”, and “Blackjack Ridge.” Ed can be found these days in his current position as banjoist/harmony vocalist for “Mile 5”.

  • Christi Cato
Christi Cato has been involved in bluegrass music for only about 5 years. She has in that time though, become a favorite at festivals, and shows throughout the mid-south area with her “Appalachian” tinted vocals. Although her first instrument was mandolin, she later found her true calling and switched to the upright bass. Christi can be heard solid as rock doing her part as the heartbeat of Mile 5.

  • James Peters
James Peters is a 40 year veteran of the musical stage as a semi-professional musician and songwriter. James began playing guitar at the age of 9 in South Alabama and by his early 20s James was diving head first into the Florida bluegrass scene. His thirties lead James to Nashville to hone his songwriting skills and eventually landing him a major label cut with the group “Brother Phelps”. They recorded “Eagle Over Angel” in 1993. With his first royalty check, James bought a handmade guitar from a luthier friend in Illinois and became infatuated with the prospect of building and repairing guitars.

At 50 years old James has his own guitar shop, Armor Guitar Company and works fulltime creating custom guitars and dobros and repairing musical instruments. When he’s not working in his shop in Springfield, TN, he’s playing guitar and singing with Mile 5.

  • Cody Brooks
Being the youngest member in the new Bluegrass band Mile 5, Cody Brooks has only four years under his belt playing bluegrass. However, for the past six years, Cody has performed authentic and contemporary blues all over the southern United States in various venues on acoustic & electric guitar. He has performed with some of the best Blues Musicians in not only the area, but the world. After being exposed to the pioneers of Bluegrass Music, Cody picked up the Dobro and added the high lonesome sound to his arsenal. Now just 19 years old and self-taught, Cody is exploring his potential with the Dobro Guitar in Nashville’s new band, Mile 5.
